I've recently picked up a copy of Bernadette Brady's Book of Fixed Stars. I've started working with parans which is an ancient technique for linking the fixed stars to the planets.
Parans work this way: a planet is related to a star by paran when both the planet and the star are on one of the angles of the chart at the same time. So they might rise, culminate, set, or anticulminate at the same time. Or, the planet might be rising at the same time the star is culminating. Or the planet might be culminating when the star is setting. Or any other combination.
Brady's book includes also a way of timing when the star will be more active in a person's life. Rising stars are said to be most active in the early part of life, culminating stars during the prime, and setting stars at the end of life. Anticulminating stars are said to reflect what a person is remembered for.
For the first time, the fixed stars are really speaking to me! I was never able to make them work for me before reading Bernadette's book. I'm wondering--are there others out there who have tried these techniques? It's exciting work for me as I've been an amateur astronomer since childhood and I've always wanted to get the stars into the chart.
