The news about Eliot Spitzer's involvement in a prostitution ring first surfaced on March 10 at about 14:00 EDT and a few hours later there were reports that he will resign on the same day. Mr. Spitzer decided to resign on the following day but his successor wanted some time for transition and suggested March 17, so the announcement came on March 12 at 11:30 EDT that the resignation will be effective at noon on March 17. Why did Mr. Paterson select March 17 to come to power? There was an astonishing array of appropriate combinations for both Mr. Spitzer and Mr. Paterson on that day once again showing the tendency of events to gravitate towards the most appropriate time.
